Description
The Road to Emmaus is a painting by the Swiss artist Robert Zünd, completed in 1877. The painting depicts the biblical story of the two disciples who were walking to Emmaus on the day of Jesus Christ’s resurrection, as described in the Gospel of Luke. The painting shows the two disciples walking along a winding path through a forested area, with the risen Christ appearing to them in the form of a fellow traveler. The disciples are shown in deep conversation with the stranger, not realizing at first that he is actually Jesus.
The scene is set against a background of rolling hills and a bright blue sky, which gives the painting a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. The use of light and shadow creates a sense of depth and realism, with the sun casting long shadows across the path and the trees.
The Road to Emmaus is a beautifully executed painting that captures the emotional and spiritual depth of the biblical story. The painting has become one of Zünd’s most famous works and is considered a masterpiece of Swiss art.
I love this painting by Robert Zünd. I have owned a very old print of this painting for more than 50 years, and it needed replacing due to the faded colors. Because this painting is public domain, I edited and enhanced it, increasing the resolution, enhancing the clarity of the faces, and now make it available here for everyone to enjoy.
